As New Yorkers and Pennsylvanians, plus folks from all over the map, converge on the Allegheny Nat'l Forest to work against hydrofracking, this 90-minute video can provide many lessons about organizing and mobilization -- not to mention the moral aspects of defending the planet. It's true that some local responses to fracking are quite different than those in Allegany County two decades ago; some NY/PA landowners and communities have been so dazzled by dollar signs that they still buy into fossil-fuel industry promises -- and in some cases, folks see this kind of "development" as their only economic hope. But more and more people, coming to understand that this Gas Rush is a big net loss for everyone, are saying no. The video is also a great nostalgia trip for those of us who took part in defending Allegany County back in the day. I sure do get a little weepy when viewing some of the footage!

My Name Is Allegheny County

This is a documentary about a rare and successful environmental campaign -- to keep a "low level" nuclear waste dump out of NY. This campaign was so successful, the entire siting project, which had a national scope, was abandoned. Shaleshock Media is very pleased to present this documentary, and asks the modern Shale-Gas movement to take lessons from history. This internet presentation is dedicated to Spike Jones.
